Gentry-Kemble Award

Congratulations to  Christie Luong and Mohamed Irhabi, the 2026 recipients of the Gentry-Kemble Legacy Awards.

Christie has served as the SGA vice president, representative to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and ambassador to the College of Engineering. She is a Ronald McNair Research Scholar and interned with companies including Dow Chemical, Northrop Grumman, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. She volunteers for Discover Engineering, Camp Brainstorm, and for CASA as a Guardian Ad Litem.

Mohamed is the 2025 TSUS Regents' Scholar, a David Beck Fellow, and an LU Ambassador, and vice president of the Undergraduate Research Association. He is a JAMP scholar and interned at Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor Saint Luke’s Medical Center, conducting further research at Weill Cornell Medical School.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ the Gentry-Kemble Legacy Awards

The annual Gentry-Kemble Legacy Awards were created in 2026 in recognition and continuation of the former Bess Gentry and C. Robert Kemble awards.

Established in 1975, the Gentry Award was annually conferred as an all-university recognition of a senior student who has demonstrated outstanding character, leadership, service, contribution and scholarship as a student ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ. 

The C. Robert Kemble Award was established in 1981 and was annually conferred as an all-university recognition of an outstanding senior student. The award honors the recipient for outstanding contribution and service to the university and for scholastic achievement.

Recipients of the Gentry-Kemble Legacy Awards are selected from the nominees for Seniors of Significance. Winners are announced at the annual Toast to Leadership ceremony, and each recipient receives a $1,000 award. 

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Bess Gentry

bess gentryBess Gentry served as the dean of women from 1944 to 1968 and head of the women’s health and physical education department from 1944 to 1956. Mrs. Gentry was instrumental in establishing several student organizations on the LU campus.

ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ Robert Kemble

c.robert-kemble.pngDr. C. Robert Kemble was president of ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ from 1977 to 1984 and served as chancellor of the ÂÒÂ×ÊÓÆµ System from 1984 to 1986.
